ONCE UPON A KISS is the latest novel from Robin Palmer, and we’re delighted to have her with us to chat about writing.
Robin, what did this book teach you about writing or about yourself?
This is my 12th book to be published, so I like to think I have the writing process down somewhat; however, this was the first book I wrote after moving in with my now-husband. Before that I lived alone and had very few distractions while writing other than perhaps a meowing cat or two. But learning to write while there was another person in the house was a whole new process. I also got pregnant while writing the book, so I was dealing with morning sickness and exhaustion.
What’s your writing ritual like? Do you listen to music? Work at home or at a coffee shop or the library, etc?
My writing process used to be that I’d wake up, make some coffee and settle down at my desk and write for a few hours; then take a walk to clear my head and stretch my legs; and then sit back down again for another few hours. If I were revising something, I might go to a coffee shop and work, but I find it hard to write first drafts when there’s a lot of commotion around me. Now that I have a 10 month old daughter, I write at coffee shops when the nanny with her….or if I’m home with her, I rush to my computer as soon as she goes down for her nap. Now it’s more of a write-whenever-and-wherever-you-can type of thing.
What are you working on now?
I just wrote a half-hour television pilot based on my novel THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET. I also came up with a new idea for a YA book that I’d like to start writing that’s very different than my previous work – more of a thriller/mystery which I think will be a lot of fun to play around with.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
After a decade-long career in Hollywood, Robin Palmer regained her sanity and chucked her cushy network executive job and expense account to become a writer. Which, she quickly discovered once her savings account was depleted, may not have been so sane.
Luckily her perseverance paid off with the publication of her first YA book CINDY ELLA, the first in a series of modern retellings of fairy tales set in a fictional Los Angeles high school. This was followed by GEEK CHARMING (made into a highly rated original Disney Channel movie starring Sarah Hyland); LITTLE MISS RED, WICKED JEALOUS, THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET, and ONCE UPON A KISS.
In addition, she wrote a five-book middle grade series called YOURS TRULY, LUCY B. PARKER.
A few years ago she moved back into screenwriting as well and has written numerous television movies including the highly rated Hallmark movie SO YOU SAID YES starring Kellie Martin.
She lives in Louisiana with her husband, daughter, and way too many animals.
