Just read another true and useful post on Jody Hedlund’s blog. She writes inspirational historical romances, but her advice is no less true for YA and children’s writers, and her list of suggestions goes beyond just the determination required to plant yourself in front of the keyboard every day. Don’t worry if you aren’t the kind of a writer who can squeeze in keyboard time consistently. I tend to write in fits and spurts around work and kids and everything else, so I don’t do well with forcing myself to sit at a keyboard every day to write new copy. Marketing and revision also get in the way. I set goals for the week though, and I make sure I am writing something every day even if it isn’t fiction. I also try to remind myself, on the days that frustration sets in, that any time I am thinking about my WIP–plotting, characterization, whatever–that counts as writing. The next time I sit at the keyboard, that will come back for a payoff.

We all have our tips and tricks. All you have to remember is never to give up!
